King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima paid tribute to the American men and women who sacrificed their lives 70 years ago to liberate Europe by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

The Royal Couple’s visit to the nation’s capital underscores the strong political bond between our two nations. The Couple then met with President Barack H. Obama in the Oval Office. The King personally thanked the president for the contribution of American soldiers to the liberation of Europe.
